Sappy Korean Drama Series

I was introduced to the perfect website for my holiday break back home...loads of Korean, Jap, Taiwanese, HK movies & drama series..the guys would be probably be going DUH right now, but seriously when all you've been reading is journals, or textbook, sometimes its just nice to zone out and watch what many would deem unrealistic/ "only happen in movies" sorta drama.

So in a typical Korean Drama Series..this is what happens
  • there will always be some form of crying, which will eventually make you cry (unless you have a heart of stone/you watched so many Korean Series you are immune to it already)
  • the main actor/actress will either fall sick/die/loose his or her memory (in which he or she will regain, when she/he knock something or fall down)
  • the main actress looks almost identical to the main actress in another Korean drama series you saw (Korea has the highest rate of plastic surgery)
  • the main actor, either super wealthy, super poor, or is a famous icon e.g. singer
  • there is always some love triangle, rectangle, or love polygon happening
  • if a couple do actually get together, there will always be some form of objection e.g. parents
  • the lines are super cheesy (but i think if bfs/guys watch more of these dramas, the girls in this world might actually be happier) sometimes i really wonder who came out with those lines..
  • the love stories also have a touch of Disney fantasy/happy ever after connotation
  • the down side is, a lot of Korean series have sad endings, of which i refuse to watch, not being idealistic, but i love happy endings
  • last but not least, this must be most common of all perhaps, there is always a scene where the girl and the guy passed each other, but never see each other!
Haha..that was a pretty long list, and i am sure people will still have things to add..so the burning question here really is, are these series are true representation of reality? or mere fantasy? Being science students,or rather having gone through, or while pursuing a university education, we are always taught to think objectively, no? So, we must always consider both ends of the continuum..(though our views i must say, are very much affected by our own experience) .... so...
  • have you experience a Korean Series-like romance (Yes/No)?
  • are the plots depicted in the movie realistic?
Here's what i think, though the story lines can at times be absurd, unrealistic, it is no worst than science fiction movies, or another hero in power suit movie...after all, at the core, they are all merely portraying some form of fantasy, instead of desiring your knight in shining armour, you're probably be craving for super powers. The occasional sappy romance series does little harm, so long your world doesn't start revolving around finding the perfect mate and waiting for fate to make things happen and wanting your significant other to be like the lead male actor in the movie..because you are bound to get disappointed. Though i must say, if you have experienced the likes of a Korean Drama Series romance, you might think otherwise..so now the question is...have you?

Me? hm...if having someone cook meals for you in sickness and in health, cheesy lines, spontaneous surprises, etc.. counts..then..maybe Yes?
