a symbol of forever
should never be given away lightly
and never accepted lightly
there it clings today
exactly where you slipped it on
representing the place it fills in my heart
a caution to never again give selflessly
or a symbol of your persistent existence in my life

with it i refuse to part
i am no fool
don't get me wrong
but difficult it would be for another
to pursue a heart that was once so totally consumed
