Companions

Have you ever wondered why 2 people click?Does the answer lie between the lines in which they exchange, the depth of their conversation or level of self disclosure? Is it the time the spend together, and activities they enjoy or their love for the same god? In psych we learn that proximity, similarity, and a long list of other stuff contributes somewhat to the "why we click", but like research in any other areas, these studies have their own confounds (or in non research terms, errors/weaknesses).

In my humble opinion, and perhaps experience, i reckon the above are merely weak predictors of why 2 individuals click. I wish i could think of a better word, but it all boils down to the "chemistry". Its that tingling feeling in you when you meet someone and know you'll be friends for life, and those rare occasions when 2 individuals who were mere strangers share their life stories over their first cup of tea together.

Notions as such, seems to imply prejudices or discriminations, or rather judging a person too much by face value. Note that this only happens if we have predetermined ideas and concepts about what sort of a person we will click with. E.g. we think that only a person of the same gender, doing the same degree or possess similar hobbies will be our greatest companions of all. I must refute this notion by saying, "clicking" knows no boundaries. and it should not be confined by the parameters of age, occupation, gender, race, or even political standing!

But if you embrace each individual that you meet with an open eye & open heart, be assured that you too will soon find, that the beauty of God's creation lies distinctly in the diversity of mankind, and how the differences between people add colours to our life. Let not our minds be corrupted by the chase of perfection, allowing beauty to lie only within the walls of tall, smart, perfect figure, bubbly personality (of course there is nothing wrong to be all these, just don't let the search for these characteristics dominate your life) but rather challenge the standards/beliefs in which the world imposes on us.

I, for one, have been blessed to have found the most interesting of companions in those that the world labels as boring, dull or unworthy of our time.

**note: I am aware that it doesn't always happen this way and there are occasions that it might take more than a single cup of tea, or excursion!
