There is a first time for everything..and this would be my first attempt at bread making...i was rather hesitant to have a go at bread making..since most of the people i know (excluding those who have the bread machine)...when they make bread it always turns out rock hard!
Anyway i figured, i should give it a go. Thanks MS for recommending thefreshloaf site, i picked up some basic techniques and tips..but still had to go to youtube, for visual illustration on the right way to knead bread dough (aren't you glad to live in the Youtube era =P)
I should reiterate that its takes patience to bake bread..especially waiting for it to rise..due to the weather conditions, and the ingredients you use...i made some alterations to the recipe i found.
If you want to give it a go, you can used the same recipe...you would need to add more water/ buttermilk cause the dough is too dry with that recipe. And if you don't have buttermilk like me...then for every one cup of milk..add 1 tablespoon of lemon, or vinegar, and let it set...then tada! you have butter milk =)
The recipe also makes wayyyy too many buns...so i halved it, even then, it was a lil too much, but partialy also because i decided to make smaller buns.
The most fascinating part was how the small dough blows up into a "bomb"...see below...(pardon me, but things like these amuses me! just ask Lin how i was jumping around)...but really if it doesn't blow up..your bread will be rock hard!
*lil chef tips
- To check with you have kneaded corectly and long enough...use your fingers and poke 2 holes into the dough...like eyes of a smiley face..if it stays, and doesn't bounce back up, your dough is ready to be set aside :D
- You should really roll your buns into neat balls after it has risen...if you want to have neater looking cluster(than the one above)...or be obsessive and weigh the dough and divide them into equal sizes!
