10 reasons why love/relationships = investing in the stock market

1. There is risk involved.

If you buy shares i.e. investing in the stock market, there is no guarantee that there will be returns, similarly, when you invest your effort and time in a relationship, there is no guarantee that it will last, you can put your whole heart and bank account into it, in the end, you could "reap" yourself an excellent wife/husband or quite the opposite...

2. When it "crashes", the consequences can be debilitating

If you were around during the 1997 economy crisis, you would be aware of the number of people who committed suicide, etc..similarly, everyday people do stupid things in the name of love.

3. Only invest if you have "assets"

In terms of the stock market, assets would = $$ in your bank...when it comes to love..i don't really mean physical assets, though those might come in handy, but really, if you yourself have no sense of contentment with life, no direction, lots of "baggage" etc...the likelihood is that entering a relationship is only going to make your situation worst..i mean, think about it, if you have minimal assets (i.e. money)..and yet you still insist on investing...what would be your "safety net" should the market crash?

4. Resources help. i.e. Having friends

Friends, especially those who are well-versed in economics, or those whose occupations are remisiers, and the likes of it...you will certainly have an edge when it comes to selecting what companies to invest in..Also, should you bankrupt..hopefully you friends will come to your aid...similary, in relationships, friends are there to give you the support you need before you enter a relationship, double date you when you are in the relationship, and provide a shoulder to lean on, should your significant other fail you.

5. The notion of choice

Yes..you have a choice, in what you would like to invest in, how much you want to invest, and how long you would like to invest for, and when you want to sell your shares...similarly, you have a choice in who you want to woo, how much time, effort, money you are willing to spend, whether its going to be a fling or a "with marriage in mind" relationship...and of course the choice to call it off.

6. The need to be vigilant/committed

Vigilant and commitment in monitoring your stocks, cash flow, etc...similarly, vigilant in watering your "relationship plant", i.e. planning a romantic night out, remembering anniversaries, being there, etc., once you start taking things for granted, thats when the "plant" starts dying...

7. Context dependent

We all know that politics, wars, etc..can affect share market prices..similarly, everything from family, distance, work stress, etc..can affect the dynamics of the relationship

8. The hope for miracles and the occasional "magic"

We know how the stock market have created overnight millionaires, afterwhich, if you do things right, and exercise sound financial management, you would be pretty well off...the occasional "magic" or miracles can spice up relationships..*let your imagination run wild for this one...you probably seen enough romance genre movies to figure this one out

9. Experience is the key to success

If you've figured out the patterns in which those graphs rise and sink, the advantages of buying blue chips, etc....aside from the occasional political disaster...you investment would be more often than not, successful..in relationships, hopefully experience doesn't mean that you need to have multiple partners before you figure it out...rather, being in a relationship with your special someone over years, you would hopefully figure out what makes the person smile and cry, what he or she likes, learnt when to give and take, etc.

10. God is ultimately in control

I'm not sure whether this would be relevant to the general population...but if you think about it...when humans can no longer find a source to infer things to...the arrow would eventually point to god..so if u hit the jackpot, you should probably thank god for his blessings, and even if you don't and you end up in the valley of darkness, god would be the comfort to your soul...for christians in relationships, this would certainly be relevant to you...if you don't know this already, without god in your relationship equation, you are doomed for disaster...
