of airports and planes

while waiting for my dear friend the other day
i stood impatiently at the arrival hall
waiting for that moment to dash up front
and offer a big hug

for almost an hour i stood
eyes not blinking
afraid i would miss her
i barely glance left nor right

judging from general expressions on peoples' faces
the arrival hall is definitely uplifts your mood a whole lot more than the departure hall
yet, for some reason, i seem to have much more sweet memories in departure halls
i wonder why...

[note: feel free to read the poem literally...hehe and not read between the lines =P]

"those moments of departing were not sorrowful
but a reflection of love and togetherness
as we were going somewhere hand in hand
we were side by side looking upon a common future

those moments of parting were filled with warm embraces
with individuals that meant the world to me
yet it didn't leave a sense of longing or lost
rather a sense of hope and anticipation of the day we will meet again

those moments of separation were filled with excitement
as we each explore our individual paths
delighted later to find that they indeed cross from time to time

those moments of distance were enriching
as the space uncovered matters of the soul
and you allowed me deeper into your soul

and today, those moments are memories
fresh in my mind, as if they happened yesterday
and if i can see the beauty in parting
i am sure i can handle the waiting in the arrival hall.

and as i penned down my thoughts
of airports and planes
i am holding on to the fact
that statistics typically suggest: that more often than not
a plane that departs would return at some point
the question would be
will the arrival hall be filled or empty then."

Gee..now you know what kind of thoughts surfaces when you wait impatiently at airports...
