Though i was all adventurous, right now, looking at this picture...i am grossed out! and i am thinking twice about posting up the video, should i? (I think i shall not)
"A balut is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. They are considered delicacies of Asia and especially the Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack, balut are mostly sold by street vendors at night in the regions where they are available. They are often served with beer. The Filipino and Malay word balut (balot) means "wrapped" – depending on pronunciation." (From Wiki)
Well, since i have braved myself and ate like a pinch of it..of course i didn't eat the entire egg, it taste like a combo of egg and duck meat. If you rationalize, its really like eating duck and duck egg together. Still the thought is still gross la...i can't believe i brought myself to taste it....! I mean embryo...okok...lets not talk about it...btw, i heard the half boil version is better.
How "geli" it makes you feel really depends on how long they allowed the embryo to grow, some you can see the head, feathers, tendons, etc. some you can merely see like a unformed baby duck..like how you see babies via ultrasound (ok la..its making me sound so cruel).
[Self Talk: i am merely eating duck! and duck egg!]
Life is short, this is me stepping out of my comfort zone (in the name of being adventurous)..but do not look forward to seeing me post up stuff on more exotic meats anytime soon.
